Transfeminist incitements

By Iliana Diéguez, Ana Longoni

About the book:

Transfeminist Incitements brings together intellectual, activist and artistic insights and practices stemming from the vast and dissimilar Latin American territory upon which Ileana Diéguez and Ana Longoni—holders of the university chair “Situated Thought. Art and Politics from Latin America”—call us to reflect. This volume gathers and combines pieces of individual and collective authorship and textualities with multiple tones, ranging from poetic registers to contentious manifestos, from chronicles and images documenting artistic actions to reflections arising from the feminist and sexual dissidence thought. The textual and visual writings in the book enable us to approach unique productions in dialogue with their socio-political circumstances, which are intended to impact on the specific conditions of their environment. Coordinators: Iliana Diéguez and Ana Longoni. Participants: Sebastián Calfuqueo, Fernanda Carvajal, Cerrucha, Alessa Flores, val flores, María Galindo, Lía García, Sol Henaro, LASTESIS, Jessica Marjane Durán Franco, Guillermina Mongan, Elva Peniche, Natalia Revale, Dodi Tavares Borges Leal, Red de Juventudes Trans México, Mariela Scafati, Lorena Wolffer and Rita Segato. https://www.museoreinasofia.es/actividades/incitaciones-transfeministas

Excerpt:

Transfeminisms have incited thoughts and actions, giving rise to a heterogeneous movement laden with tension and differences, marked by its sense of urgency and the feeling that it is an unstoppable wave. Its massiveness is irreversibly transfiguring the notion and practice of politics in a large part of the world, fueling the possibility for emancipated subjectivities, at the same time being fiercely attacked by the rising tide of a new counter-reaction. Transfeminist Incitement brings together intellectual, activist and artistic insights and practices stemming from the vast and dissimilar Latin American territory upon which Ileana Diéguez and Ana Longoni—holders of the university chair “Situated Thought. Art and Politics from Latin America”—call on us to reflect. This volume gathers and combines pieces of individual and collective authorship, textualities with multiple tones, ranging from poetic registers to contentious manifestos, from chronicles and images documenting artistic actions to reflections arising from feminist and sexual dissidence thought. The textual and visual writings in the book enable us to approach unique productions in dialogue with their socio-political circumstances, which are intended to impact on the conditions of their respective concrete environment.

The chair “Situated Thought. Art and Politics from Latin America” is a common project—meant to become itinerant—of Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Cuajimalpa campus, and the Reina Sofía Museum, and is rooted in the issues raised and work experiences developed in the seminar “Critical Cartographies. In situ Practices,” in the research project entitled “Situated Thought. Art and Politics from Latin America,” carried out by the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, and in the exploration, reflection and documentation processes undertaken by Red de Conceptualismos del Sur (Network of Conceptualisms of the South). The Situated Thought collection gathers and disseminates a diversity of voices from different Latin American regions that are taking a stance in the public debate currently underway regarding the various dimensions and approaches involved at the intersection of artistic practices, activism and critical thought. Such publications stand as new forums for exchanging reflections and broadening and enhancing the conversations held within the chair, encouraged by a shared framework of intellectual complicities and a sense of discomfort with the narrow limits encountered in both the academic and artistic worlds.
